'Younger wife' for marital bliss

In short age (the guy should be at least 5 years older) and intelligence (the girl should be smarter) are factors which contribute to a happy family.

Of course this puts me in a bit of a quandary. Although the age thing is easy enough, finding a 26 year old PhD is less so.

What about the Prophet (PBUH) and Khadhija? The happiest of marriages but no one seems to be want to follow that example.

  3. That's a very good example actually. Worth bearing in mind that it was Khadija who proposed to The Prophet though. Funny how that's not an example followed nowadays either, eh?

Fug: Aaah I love how us progressive types can so easily discard the wisdom of our elders. Old wives may have had their tales, but I bet they were happier too.

Did you watch Life on BBC last night? Six males chasing one female humpback whale and she mates with the strongest. Nature at its best. :)

  5. you only bet they were happier because you imagine the past a lot more rosy tinted.

maybe its a lie propagated by stupid women to keep themselves down

  6. Yeh, and perhaps there's more divorces now 'cos women feel confident enough to invoke them. Gotta love progress.

Or men arent relatively skilled enough to avoid them? The past is a country we cant visit, I wish I could, but am also intrigued by the possibilities of the future.

I dont beleive in the girls are more mentally mature than boys thing anymore.

  8. There could be a variety of reasons. But the point is that, on the whole, there are more marriages breaking down now than there was ever before. I think that's a good indication of how stable and happy marriages were in the past too. In that sense I don't think you can really criticise a report which suggests having the attitudes we held back then as a solution to fix the state we find ourselves in.

  9. its incomplete.

Yet the stresses these days are different, maybe they are greater in some cases maybe not. But the demonstration effect of family breakdowns and pursuits of atomic liberal happinesses seem new to me.

There's definitely a correlation between the decrease in family life and the increase in the pursuit of fulfilment for those who don't get off of family building.

Perhaps it's not causal, but I personally think it makes perfect sense that a independent search for happiness would affect a collective such as a family.

  12. Going on a psuedo tangent, as well as greater exposure amongst females to pretty godless education (detriment to family),

there is the increased fertility span thanks to medical and lifestyle advances (probably assistance to family).

    ?

  13. Nice use of spin, you should write for the Daily Mail.

Not sure why an increased fertility or lifespan should imply more self-improvement/independence. If anything that just goes to prove how selfish the attitudes are; only those who see family as a limiting "life is over once you have kids" concept would make such an argument.
